Chargers Bring Garay Back

Defensive Lineman Returns For 2 More Years

Of the first 10 free agents the Chargers signed this off-season, eight of them were offensive players. The only defenders were LB Jarret Johnson and S Atari Bigby.

Thursday they addressed the defensive line, making a big addition by preventing a big subtraction.

Defensive tackle Antonio Garay agreed to a 2-year contract to stay in San Diego. The 6-foot-4, 320-pound nose tackle became a regular starter in 2010. Since then he's led all Chargers linemen with 108 tackles and eight sacks.

On the field, Garay does a tremendous job against the run. More importantly, he's a leader in the locker room.

The Chargers now have five defensive linemen under contract, and still have an offer out to DE Luis Castillo.
