A fast-moving fire in San Diego badly damaged an apartment in University and killed two cats.

The blaze was first reported to San Diego Fire/Rescue at 10:45 a.m. on Tuesday. Firefighters arrived at the University City complex in the 9500 block of Genesee Avenue a short time later and had the fire under control by 11 a.m.

Nearby apartment dwellers had to evacuate while fire crews knocked down the blaze. Officials said two adults who lived at the complex were displaced by the blaze.

Besides the cats, there were no other injuries.
