Man Arrested in Carlsbad Double Stabbing

Editor's note Dec. 29, 2014: The case against Kevin Rachford was dropped in March 2014 due to insufficient evidence, the San Diego District Attorney's office said.

A man was arrested, accused of stabbing two people in Carlsbad Sunday officials said.

The two stabbing victims were rushed to the hospital from a home in the 6400-block of Terraza Portico.

When Carlsbad police officers arrived at the address around 11 p.m. Sunday, they found two people suffering from stab wounds. Officials have not released the extent of the victims’ injuries or their identities.

A witness told police officers he saw a man leave the scene on foot.

Police said they soon found Kevin Rachford, 38, and arrested in on suspicion of two counts of assault with a deadly weapon. He was taken to the hospital with a hand injury and has since been booked in Vista Detention Facility.

Rachford has been charged with one count of assault with a deadly weapon.

Officers said Rachford was also hospitalized for injuries he sustained.

Neighbors in the gated community were shocked and surprised by the crime and said one of the female victims lived in the complex.

Parts of Terraza Portico were closed during the criminal investigation.

Officers said the victim and the suspect knew each other and investigators are working to determine who began the fight.
