Carlsbad-based Jenny Craig donated thousands of dollars Wednesday to help a local community garden promote healthy living in the community.
The weight loss company presented a check for $9,200 to the Carlsbad Community Garden Collaborative, a non-profit run by volunteers who work to create garden sharing in the city of Carlsbad.
The check presentation took place at The Harold E. Smerdu Community Garden on Laguna Drive. This garden is on a 1.5 acre property and includes 52 plots growing vegetables, fruits, flowers.
Jenny Craig has been financially supporting the CCGC program since 2011.
“Jenny Craig’s mission is to combat obesity and encourage healthy eating habits. This donation is especially important to us, as the Harold E. Smerdu Community Garden has such a significant impact on our community and serves as a catalyst for widespread health,” said Corrine Perritano, Jenny Craig VP of North America Business, in a company statement.
CCGC plans to use the money to install new drip systems, replace fences and subsidize fees for less fortunate gardeners.
