Police Investigate Reported Carjacking in Pacific Beach

San Diego police were investigating a report of a carjacking in Pacific Beach Wednesday.

San Diego Police Department Sgt. Michael Stirk said a red-colored Dodge minivan was stolen around 12 p.m. at Ocean Boulevard and Thomas Avenue, near the Baja Beach Café. Officers could be seen lining the boardwalk as they launched their investigation.

About 45 minutes later, SDPD Sgt. Jason Tsai told NBC 7 the incident may have involved possible "horseplay" among three adult men in their early 20s. Tsai said two men inside the red van reportedly jumped out of the vehicle and grabbed another man, throwing him into the van.

Tsai said witnesses told police the men drove off with the side door swung open, and appeared to be laughing and joking around.

Police were able to get the minivan's license plate number and were conducting a welfare check, Tsai said.
