If his first five games back from the disabled list are any indication, Padres 2nd baseman Jedd Gyorko's second half of the 2014 season will look a lot like the second half of Chase Headley's 2012 season.
On Thursday against the Cardinals, Gyorko hit a home run for the second straight game, an opposite field shot off Cardinals starter Shelby Miller. Gyorko is hitting .500 since his return with a double, two home runs and six runs batted in.
Will Venable also went deep against Miller, but the Padres only had one other hit, a Rene Rivera double, in their 6-2 loss to St. Louis. Padres starting pitcher Odrsiamer Despaigne allowed all six Cardinals runs in 5.2 innings to take his second straight loss.
The Padres still won the series, 2-1. They start a 3-game set against the Braves on Friday night at Petco Park.
