Woman Found Dead Inside Car With Shattered Windows On I-15

The northbound ramp to I-15 at El Norte Parkway is closed until further notice as police investigate.

One person has been found dead inside an Escondido car with shattered windows, California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers said.

Officers responded to a report of a stopped car at approximately 1:10 p.m. Monday on northbound Interstate 15 near El Norte Parkway in Escondido.

They found the car's two front windows shattered and a woman inside, officers said. She was found with blood on her upper body and was later confirmed dead. The cause of death is unclear and the San Diego County Medical Examiner's office will be investigating.

"At this point we’re starting to look into how this happened," said Escondido Police Office Lt. Ed Varso.

Varso said police have not found any weapons in the car. It is too early in the investigation for them to say how the windows broke or what caused them to break, Varso said.

The northbound ramp to I-15 at El Norte Parkway is closed until further notice as police investigate.

Authorities expect to have more information on the investigation Tuesday.
