Car Reaches 120 MPH in North County Pursuit

Driver fled on foot after police stopped him

A police pursuit that started in Temecula led officers on a chase that reached over 120 miles per hour Wednesday evening.

Police attempted to pull the driver of a gray Acura over for a registration inquiry just before 4 p.m. on southbound Interstate 15 at Winchester Road in Temecula, but he sped off.

At one point, the driver stopped in the Temecula area and a passenger got out of his car. He then continued driving on southbound I-15 at high speeds.

CHP said the suspect made his way to westbound State Route 52 before getting onto northbound I-15 and exiting at El Camino Real and Del Mar Heights Road.

The suspect then abandoned the vehicle at the exit and attempted to flee on foot, according to CHP officials.

He was ultimately detained by officers at 12760 Highbluff Drive and taken into custody without incident, authorities said.
