Car Lands Upside Down in Carmel Valley Construction Site

The teen walked away without any injuries

A car flew off the road near Carmel Valley after a teenage driver fell asleep at the wheel Sunday evening. The car was left in pieces, but the teen was able to walk away without a scratch.

A trail of tire tracks and a broken fence led to the car, completely flipped over in a pile of rubble. The driver, Aaron Quini, 17, described the moments before the accident, saying he dozed off for just a second after a long day at a dance competition. When he woke up, he knew it was already too late to stop the crash.

"I didn't know what to do other than cover my head and hope for the best, and suddenly I'm hanging upside down hanging from my seat belt," he said.

The car flipped after going over a wall; Aaron walked away without a scratch. He told NBC 7, "a little bit in shock but other than that, I'm completely fine."

The car wasn't as lucky. A tow truck quickly took it away. The car landed in the driveway of a house that's in the process of being built on Carmel Valley Road.

Aaron told NBC7 he knows he's very lucky and just thankful no one else was around when the car went barreling off the road. He added, "the car's completely upside down and totaled. Won't be using that again."

Aaron did take a piece of the car with him. He told NBC 7 he's going to hang the hub cap up on his bedroom wall for good luck since he walked away from this accident pretty lucky.
