One person died after a car went off the side of the road in the Cleveland National Forest, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The accident happened just before 5 p.m. Monday on eastbound Interstate 8, just past Willows Road, in Alpine. The crash happened near a scenic viewpoint.
According to CHP, the car went down an approximately 200-yard drop, trapping the driver inside.
Cal Fire confirmed that the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The viewpoint was closed while firefighters worked to recover the body.
There is no word yet on the person's identity or what caused the accident.
