Car Crashed Into Bus Stop Bench

Three people were hurt Tuesday night, one seriously, when a car crashed into a bus stop bench on Pacific Highway near Witherby Street near MCRD.

Police say a white SUV rear-ended a Honda, which then skidded out of control and hit the bus stop bench around 6:30 p.m..

Two off-duty civilian MCRD employees were sitting on the bench and taken to UCSD with minor injuries.

The driver of the Honda suffered serious head injuries.

Police are now investigating the driver of the white SUV.

"The driver of the SUV told us he was rear-ended but we don't believe that was the case," said Lt. Dan Christman with the San Diego police department. "There's no evidence he was contacted from behind by any car and we believe that car was responsible for the accident."

Police also say the driver of the white SUV was okay and left the scene after he spoke with police.
