[LA] California's New Budget Means Everyone Will Have to Pay Sales Tax Online
California's brick and mortar businesses are celebrating the new budget which they say levels the playing field with online businesses. Under the budget, the state will try to collect sales tax from companies such as Amazon which up until now did not seek California sales taxes from California customers.

A temporary 1 percent sales tax increase was put into effect in 2009, as part of a budget agreement, but will end June 30, says Biz Journals.

The tax also had an affect on California's "use tax," which taxed residents when they purchased items online, from companies that had no physical presence in this state.

As of July 1, sales tax in California will range from 7.25 percent to 9.75 percent.
