Chula Vista Police Seize 40+ Guns, Arrest Suspect Prohibited From Owning Firearms

Police recovered more than 40 firearms from a person prohibited from gun ownership in Chula Vista

The Chula Vista Police Department (CVPD) arrested a person prohibited from owning firearms in Chula Vista after seizing over 40 guns from their household.

Police worked with the California Department of Justice Bureau of Firearms and Prohibited Persons System (APPS) to recover the firearms, the CVPD said Thursday.

APPS provided a list of suspects to the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) of the CVPD. This aided their operation to recover firearms from people who were specifically prohibited from gun ownership.

According to the CVPD, the suspect is on a list of prohibited persons that are not allowed to possess firearms because they fall under certain categories, including past criminal offenses or mental health issues.

The CVPD regularly conducts operations to prevent prohibited persons from owning firearms. Their purpose is to protect the community from individuals who should not possess guns.

The suspect's name and further details about the firearms in the suspect's possession were not immediately released.
