A car crashed into a gas meter in Logan Heights on Friday, forcing the evacuations of nearby residents and businesses.
The crash occurred when a driver was backing out of a driveway in the 400 block of S. 28th St. in Logan Heights at about 4:45 p.m.
The driver accidentally hit the meter, the San Diego Fire Department said, which caused a leak.
The police department was providing traffic control in the area.
There were no injuries. Authorities said the homes were evacuated as a precaution only.
A few hours later, SDG&E workers were able to cap the gas leak.
