Thieves struck at the Helen Woodward Animal Shelter for the second time in as many months, police said.

The recent break-in at the Helen Woodward Animal Center occurred Sunday night at the nonprofit in Rancho Santa Fe.

Police said the crooks shattered a large plate-glass window and broke down a wooden door to get into the main office. They made off with $600 in cash and checks.

  • Hmmm Thursday, Jan 8 at 11:36 AM FLAG COMMENT Jennifer, nope, you're NOT stupid. Alot of us think that when we give to a non-profit organization, we're giving to a 'worthy' cause, not realizing that most of the time the CEO's, presidents, etc. are getting a hefty salary. I guess it's time for us to do some MAJOR homework before we give to ANY 'charitable' cause. I'm just sorry that the majority of the money isn't going to the poor animals. • Hmmm Wednesday, Jan 7 at 2:48 PM FLAG COMMENT Ok, thx for that information paws....now then....since this organization is SUPPOSED to be 'non-profit', and about the ANIMALS, they why is the CEO making that much money? Sounds to me like he/she is making a HUGE 'profit' on the donations of good people thinking that they're donating to a 'non-profit' organization that was meant to take care of animals, NOT people! How about if that CEO cuts his/her ridiculous salary by, say, ... MORE >
  • paws Wednesday, Jan 7 at 2:29 PM FLAG COMMENT FYI, the CEO makes close to 214,000 a year. Is it about the animals? Does a CEO of a non profit really need to make that much? I don't think so. You can check it out at charitynavigator.org to see where your money is going. This is a good place to use when deciding which non pofit to donate to. What these thieves did is still not right.
