Budget Ax Hits State Parks

4 major beaches in San diego County are affected.

California State Parks is out with its list of campgrounds, beaches and museums that will close certain days or have hours reduced because of state budget cuts.

Among the changes in San Diego County, museums in Old Town will close on a rotating basis one day a week.

Lifeguard service will be scaled back at Silver Strand, Torrey Pines, San Onofre and Carlsbad State Beaches.  Tthe Tamarisk Grove Campground at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park will be open only Friday through Sunday.

The service reductions are designed to minimize disruptions for park visitors, while keeping parks open and achieving the $14.2 million in budget savings to help close the State’s budget deficit, according to a release from the governor's office.
