Brush Fire Sparks in Spring Valley

Cal Fire crews battled a brush fire in Spring Valley Wednesday night.

Around 8:15 p.m., fire was spotted near a well-established homeless camp on Jamacha Boulevard at Pointe Parkway.

Eastbound Jamacha Boulevard was shut down from Whitestone Road to Sweetwater Springs Boulevard while crews were on scene.

Firefighters had to work quickly, fearing the fire would spread to homes on top of the hill. The fire has burned a quarter acre total, according to fire officials.

For the third day in a row, San Diego County was under a red flag warning. The dry, windy weather puts the county at increased risk for fires.

A wind advisory remains in effect until 2 p.m. Thursday.
