A brush fire that came dangerously close to homes in the Clairemont area of San Diego Monday was knocked out after about an hour.
The fire started at 6:59 p.m. on Regents Road and eastbound State Route 52, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department (SDFD).
Strike teams were on the scene for about an hour attacking the fire from the ground and sky. They also checked for hot spots and cut away any dry brush that could potentially start another fire.
Neighbors told NBC 7 they were thankful for such a quick response from firefighters.
"That definitely helps and makes me feel a lot safer because they responded so quick," said Madhy Krishna, who lives nearby. "But honestly, I just saw it when it was almost dying so I didn't know how big the fire was."
This is the first fire I ever noticed in this canyon," Krishna added.
A SigAlert was issued for the eastbound lanes on State Route 52 at Regents Road but all lanes have since reopened.
