A brush fire moves up a canyon towards homes Sunday in Escondido.

A three-acre brush fire caused the brief evacuation of a community near northeast Escondido Sunday until firefighters were able to tame the flames.

The fire, sparked by a lawn mower, started just after noon near Lake Wohlford Road and Valley Parkway.

Valley Center residents were evacuated by Escondido police for less than an hour Sunday afternoon, CalFire spokesperson Mike Mohler said.

Fire crews contained the fire close to two hours later. No injuries or damage were reported.
