A brush fire sparked up in Spring Valley Monday afternoon, according to fire department officials.

The fire started at 5 p.m. near Maria Ave. and Eucalyptus St.

When firefighters arrived, the fire had burned about half an acre on a hill and smoke was showing.

Officials said the fire was burning at a slow rate, and had relatively little fuel to burn. No injuries were reported, and none of the homes near the fire were forced to evacuate.

The fire was knocked down within moments of firefighters arriving.
