A 30 acre brush fire in Slaughterhouse Canyon near Lakeside and State Route 67 was extinguished after burning for about 90 minutes Saturday.

CAL FIRE got  the call at 12:05 p.m. When firefighters arrived there were four separate fires in the hills surrounding the highway. Light winds helped to push the flames over the hillside.

Tankers made about a dozen drops and tackled the bulk of the fire according to one nearby resident. As of 1:25 p.m., the fire appeared to be under control.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation but officials have ruled out powerlines as a reason for the fire.

This is the latest of several brush fires in the county this week. "This should be a warning to everyone to be alert," said Battalion Chief Nick Schuler.
