A brush burned near San Diego State University Monday afternoon, according to fire officials.

The quarter-acre fire started around 4 p.m. along eastbound Interstate 8 near the College Avenue exit. Lanes 1 and 2 were closed as smoke affected those lanes of traffic.

Firefighters controlled the blaze shortly before 4:30 p.m.

SigAlert has issued a warning that traffic could be delayed up to an hour.

No structures were threatened and no injuries were reported.
