A fire burned near Lakeside at Wildcat Canyon Road and Barona Road on Monday, according to CAL Fire.

Around 3:15 p.m. smoke and flames could be seen burning roughly 2 miles north of Barona Casino. The fire also started near a gun range, though it is uncertain if that is the cause.

The blaze grew to 17 acres in size, but firefighters were able to surround and extinguish it.

California Highway Patrol shut down Wildcat Canyon Road in both directions near the fire, and a SigAlert was issued. Wildcat Canyon road is closed between San Vicente and Founders Way until 7 p.m.

San Diego Gas & Electric also responded to the scene for power lines down in the area.

Two helicopters, four tankers and 70 firefighters responded to the scene.
