Border Patrol Officer Injured On Duty

State Route 78 is closed while CHP investigates vehicle collision of border patrol agent

An on-duty Border Patrol agent collided into another car causing an accident Tuesday at around 3 p.m.

The 41-year-old male agent suffered non-life threatening injuries. The other passengers in the Border Patrol car were uninjured.

The Border Patrol vehicle was driving westbound on state Route 78 when it drifted over the solid double yellow line and collided head-on with a Ford F-250 that was heading east. The driver of the Ford was 28-year-old Tara Goins and her three children under the age of 8. None of them were injured.

The agent was airlifted to a nearby hospital with unknown internal injuries.

SR-78 was closed between Third Street and Old Julian Highway while California Highway Patrol conducted an investigation. The cause of the collision is unknown at this time and still under investigation.
