An anonymous caller phoned in a bomb threat aimed at a La Mesa Walmart forcing a brief evacuation of the store, police said.
The La Mesa Police Department told NBC 7 around 6:15 p.m. that management at the Grossmont Center Walmart evacuated the store "out of an abundance of caution."
Four bomb-sniffing K-9 officers were at the scene checking trash cans and bushes outside the property trying to detect a threat but none was found, police said.
Kylah Hayes was inside the Walmart when the intercom announcement was made to evacuate.
"We thought it was fake so we kept shopping. Some girl stopped us and was like 'you need to put your stuff down and go now.'"
Employee Darryl Tolliver got the evacuation news while on break nearby.
"Heart pumping, heart racing, your blood going through your head. Just feel like your soul is coming out your body. That's crazy. I don't want that feeling. I like living. I like breathing. I like fresh air."

Employees and staff were allowed back into the store at around 8:30 p.m.
