Bomb Squad Searches Amtrak in Van Nuys

The LAPD bomb squad checked the baggage of a female Amtrak passenger after the man who dropped her off in Simi Valley made a comment that raised employees' concerns, said a police lieutenant.

The train, stopped on Union Pacific tracks just south of the Van Nuys station at Van Nuys Boulevard and Saticoy Street at about 9:45 Saturday night, was allowed back into service at about midnight, said Lt. John Romero.

The bomb squad interviewed passengers and dogs sniffed bags, said Romero.

"This was entirely precautionary," said Romero. "There was no specific threat."

He said the woman did not make any threat. A comment made by the man who was a non-passenger raised the concerns. Romero said he did not know whether police would talk to the man who made the comments that delayed passengers for more than two hours.
