Fisherman Who Died in Ramona Lake ID'd

The man was reported missing when his fishing kayak turned up empty Saturday

The San Diego County Coroner's Office has identified the man who was reported missing and later found dead in Ramona's Lake Sutherland.

Leonard Kevin Jones, 57, was reported missing after his fishing kayak was spotted floating upside down near the Lake Sutherland Dam Saturday.

Employees told deputies the kayak belonged to Jones, who frequently fished on the lake.

Sheriff’s officials called out their search and rescue teams and the agency’s helicopters to help look for the missing man along the shoreline.

When that turned up nothing, they deployed boats onto the lake, but bad weather and poor diving conditions forced them to suspend the search Saturday night.

On Sunday around 9:30 a.m., the search and rescue’s divers found Jones' body in 16 feet of water.

An autopsy has not been performed, so Jones' cause of death will be released at a later time.
