Body Found in Trunk of Burned-Out Car Identified

Officials have identified the man found dead inside a burned-out car in San Diego's East County.

Dillon Davis, 20, of 4S Ranch, was found dead inside the trunk of the car along Skyline Truck Trail east of Jamul around 4:30 a.m. Thursday.

The driver of a passing vehicle called 911 after seeing a car on fire.

As they were fighting the flames, firefighters discovered a man's body in the trunk of the four-door sedan parked in front of a home.

The victim was so badly burned that investigators couldn't even determine a gender.

However, on Sunday, officials confirmed Davis was the victim.

Homicide investigators believe Davis was the victim of foul play and are asking for the public's help.

“Because of the suspicious nature of the event that it was a fully engulfed vehicle and the charred remains of a human inside the vehicle, it does not appear to be the result of a vehicle accident," Capt. Duncan Fraser said on Thursday.

Anyone with information about the victim and/or this incident is asked to call the Homicide Detail at (858) 974-2321/after hours at (858) 565-5200 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-TIPS(8477).
