Man's Body Found Near Navy Training Support Center in Shelltown

A man's body was found on the side of the road Sunday morning near the Navy Training Support Center San Diego, police said.

San Diego Police Department received the call about the body at the corner of Main Street and Vesta Street just after 11:30 a.m., Officer Sarah Foster said.

The man was found with a lot of cash on him, one witness said.

"I was on a bus and they were giving CPR," Isreal Morales said. "I thought it was my neighbor. When I came back, he was still there."

He said he asked the officer to see if the man was someone he knew.

"Nobody I could recognize," Morales said. "I've never seen him here before. But he had $22,000 on him."

Homicide investigators were on the scene as per procedure but the San Diego County Medical Examiner's Office later said the man, believed to be in his 40s, overdosed, according to police.

The man's identity has not been released.
