Body Found Near Lake Hodges ID'd as San Diego Woman

Officials announced Thursday that part of the mystery surrounding a body found near Lake Hodges has been solved.

After nearly two months of investigation, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department identified the body as that of Marisol Lopez, a 29-year-old San Diego woman.

On Oct. 17, her skeletal remains were discovered near a walking path by the lake, close to the 19900 block of Lake Drive in unincorporated Escondido.

The sheriff’s department had to enlist help from the public to identify the woman in November. Officials said she was found wearing a pair of shorts, a Padres athletic jersey and a distinctive ring.

The medical examiner’s office has not yet determined Lopez’s cause or manner of death.

If you know anything about her death, call the sheriff’s homicide unit at 858-974-2321 or after hours at 858-565-5200. You can also call Crime Stoppers anonymously at 888-580-8477.
