The death of a missing man from La Mesa was ruled a suicide on Saturday by the San Diego Medical Examiner's office.

Officials said 43-year-old Don Hoff died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest. He hadn't been seen in a week after attending a family dinner, according to deputies.

Hoff’s body was found by a sheriff’s helicopter at 10.20 a.m. Monday in the rural brush area on the back side of Iron Mountain with a gun lying next to it, according to police.

Hoff’s car was found on Friday, Dec.10 at the base of Iron Mountain on Poway Road and Highway 67 at about 3:07 a.m.
