Boat Runs Aground in Solana Beach

Lifeguards in Solana Beach responded to a report of a boat aground Tuesday night, resulting in the detainment of three men.

The boat was located about 100 yards north of the beach access from Solana Vista. It appeared to have some mechanical issues, according to the Solana Beach Sheriff's Department.

Witnesses reported seeing seven people getting out of the boat and fleeing. However three men were detained by Border Patrol and are now in federal custody.

Lifeguards took the boat past the surf line to anchor. In the morning, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol will tow the boat away.

Investigators believe the incident could be a case of human smuggling. In the morning they will search the vessel for drugs when it is docked.
