Eight Rescued from Boat in La Jolla

Lifeguards rescued passengers from a power boat after the vessel’s engine overheated

Lifeguards rescued a group of eight people from a rented 40-foot power boat in La Jolla Sunday.

Officials said the rescue took place around 12:30 p.m. about a mile off shore at Windansea Beach.

A boat's engine overheated, prompting the rescue by lifeguards who transported all passengers aboard the vessel to shore.

The boat -- which was a rental -- was towed back to land.

No injuries were reported.
