Bay Terraces Family Escapes House Fire

The family includes four children and will need a place to stay

A family of nine was displaced by a house fire Monday morning.

Five adults and four children were inside the Bay Terraces home when one of the kids smelled smoke and woke up the others.

San Diego firefighters say when the family opened the garage door, they found heavy smoke.

Everyone was able to get out safely.

One person was taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation.

The cause is still being investigated.

Firefighters say the amount of items stored in the garage provided a lot of fuel for the fire.

The San Diego chapter of the American Red Cross is helping all nine people displaced by the fire.
