Bandit Robs Bank, Flees in Taxi Cab

Andrew Geils, 57, was later arrested on bank robbery charges and linked to two other robberies

A man who robbed a bank in downtown San Diego on Saturday fled the scene in a taxi cab and was later captured by police.

According to the San Diego Police Department, the suspect – identified as Andrew Geils, 57 – robbed the Citibank at 755 Broadway Circle near Horton Plaza at around 12:30 p.m.

Geils gave a demand note to a teller and was given an undisclosed amount of money. He then got into a taxi cab and fled the area.

SDPD’s ABLE helicopter assisted in locating the taxi cab on southbound SR-125 and directed ground units to the vehicle a short time later.

At around 1:20 p.m., Geils was detained and positively identified by employees of the bank, police said.

He was arrested on bank robbery charges. Police say Geils matched the description of two additional bank robberies previously reported on Friday.
