BMW Crashes Into Escondido Apartment

The driver of a BMW who crashed into an Escondido apartment building was taken into custody on suspicion of drunk driving, police said.

The vehicle crashed into the complex at around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 500-block of North Date Street near East Washington Avenue.

After crashing into a family's residence, the driver jumped out of the BMW and ran away. A group of citizens who saw the crash chased the man down and held him until police arrived, an Escondido police sergeant said.

Police said there were no injuries.
