San Diego State University's assistant basketball coach Mark Fisher has been diagnosed with ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig's Disease.
Mark is the son of Aztecs head coach Steve Fisher and has been a member of SDSU's staff for 12 years, the last seven as assistant coach.
On Friday, Steve Fisher announced changes to his coaching staff due to the situation.
Mark, just 34 years old, will stay with the program as an assistant to the head coach. Former director of player development David Velasquez has been named assistant coach. Tim Shelton has been hired to take over as director of player of development.
Both Velasquez and Shelton are SDSU graduates.
The Aztecs open basketball practice this weekend.
