An armed suspect attempted to rob The Watering Hole sports bar located at 4766 Clairemont Mesa Blvd. Saturday morning, police confirmed.

Police said the incident began around 10 a.m. when the boyfriend of an employee who works at the bar entered the building through the back door.

A male suspect followed behind the boyfriend, also entering the bar.

Police said the suspect pointed a handgun at the employee and her boyfriend. The victims ran out of the bar and the would-be robber fled the scene on foot.

Police described the suspect as a thin, light-skinned black male in his early 20s wearing a white bandana over his face, a black shirt and dark jeans. He was allegedly armed with a black semi-automatic weapon.

No injuries were reported. Police are investigating.
