Shooting at Spring Valley Apartment Complex

Sheriffs confirmed the shooting was the result of a dispute between two people

Sheriffs responded to a shooting at an apartment complex on the 9000 block of Harness St. in Spring Valley Sunday morning where one person had been wounded at the scene.

According to sheriffs, the shooting occurred around 9:42 a.m. after the suspect got into an argument with the apartment manager. The suspect fired at least one bullet during their dispute and the manager was shot in the abdomen, according to sheriffs.

When a deputy arrived, he saw the suspect chasing the victim. When the suspect saw the deputy, he allegedly fled into an apartment.

Sheriffs temporarily shut down access to Harness St. until the situation was contained.

Sheriffs said they were able to make phone contact with the suspect and he voluntarily came out of the apartment and was taken into custody.

The victim was transported to the hospital and his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening at this time, according to investigators.

By the afternoon, the suspect had been identified as 35-year-old DeJuan Stevens, who will be charged with attempted murder, according to officials.
