City Councilmen and mayoral candidates David Alvarez and Kevin Faulconer held separate events on Saturday, weeks ahead of a special election to fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of former mayor Bob Filner.
One day after receiving an endorsement from San Diego’s Interim Mayor Todd Gloria, Alvarez hosted a “pen and pad breakfast” in Clairemont with community members, multi-cultural news outlets, bloggers, and writers.
The event, which was opened to the public and began just before 11 a.m., was held at the North Clairemont Library, located at 4616 Clairemont Drive.
Meanwhile, at about 10:30 a.m., Faulconer and his supporters were aiming to “get out the vote” during an event outside the councilman’s headquarters at 5215 Lovelock Street in Bay Park.

Volunteers worked throughout the day to get the word out by making phone calls and knocking on doors. Faulconer told NBC San Diego he'll personally be going door to door and making as many calls as he can.
The runoff campaigns for both Faulconer and Alvarez are expected to kick into high gear over the next few weeks as absentee ballots have recently been mailed out and the Feb. 11 election day draws near.
