Driver Dies in Fiesta Island Car Crash

A 26-year-old woman was killed after a two-vehicle accident near Fiesta Island Wednesday afternoon.

The accident occurred around noon Wednesday on Mission Bay Drive, according to the San Diego Police Department.

A driver leaving the Hilton near Fiesta Island collided with an 87-year-old woman driving a white car on East Mission Bay Drive, said Sgt. Joe Benavides.

The woman driving the white vehicle had a heart attack in the crash, authorities told NBC 7.

The female driver and three other people were transported to local hospitals.

Just before 2 p.m. the woman driving the white car died following her heart attack, said Benavides. She sustained a serious upper leg injury and laceration to her face. She did not have a pulse when medics arrived.

East Mission Bay Drive was closed for several hours and Fiesta Island Road was shut down. Police were diverting traffic in the area.

The traffic unit is investigating the crash, but authorities do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved.
