Two victims were described as conscious and breathing

A gunman who shot two men and a child in El Cajon Monday was still on the loose according to police.

A 7-year-old girl was caught in crossfire when shots were fired just afte 7:30 p.m. at Graves Avenue and Madison Avenue.

Medics were requested to treat two victims who were described as conscious and breathing. One of the victims was a 7-year-old girl who was shot in the back, according to police.

One witness said the girl was shot in the left kidney area, apparently hit by a bullet that had ricocheted during a shooting.

"She was just saying 'It hurts, it hurts,'" said Beth Kell. "I just kept trying to reassure that they would give her something for the pain, as soon as they could, you know, and that she was going to be okay."

An ambulance transported the child to Rady Children's Hospital where she was treated.

The two men who ran away from the shooter were taken to the hospital by emergency crews. They were said to have non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

No suspect information was immediately available and police are still on the lookout for the shooter.

Officers said they had no word on a motive.

Kell said the neighborhood where the shooting took place has become dangerous and recently she has prohibited her children from going outside after dark.
