Recent Parolee Arrested in Mother's Beating

A La Mesa man released from prison just days ago is again in police custody, accused of severely beating his mother and stabbing her dog to death.

Scott Pierson, 45, faces charges of attempted murder, elder abuse and cruelty to animals after an attack Sunday morning that put his 67-year old mother in the hospital.

"He's a parolee. Just released a couple days ago from prison and he's been living with her and he's the suspect in this attack," said Sgt. Ray Sweeney of the La Mesa Police Department.

The unidentified La Mesa woman suffered life-threatening injuries to her head and face. The victim was transferred from the Grossmont Hospital Emergency Room to Sharp Memorial Trauma Hospital.

After the woman told hospital staff that her son had beaten her, the staff immediately informed La Mesa police Sweeney said.

Officers then went to arrest Pierson at the 7900 block of University Avenue.

One neighbor recalled seeing the suspect shortly before the arrest.

"They just said 'Get on the ground.' He yelled back and then he started cooperating. He got down and they jumped on him, told him they were going to tase him if he moved or anything," Robert Seeger said.

The victim's dog was also attacked.

"They located a dog that was severely injured and later died at 3:45 this afternoon at animal hospital. The dog had stab wounds," said Sweeney.

Pierson was incarcerated for theft when he was released from prison earlier in the week.
