58,300 Ribbons On Midway Honor Those Who Died in Vietnam

More than 58,000 ribbons will be tied along the flight deck fence of the USS Midway by the end of April in honor of those who died in Vietnam.

Visitors, guests and overnight campers have tied more than 20,000 ribbons along the flight deck fence in five days’ time.

By April 23, 58,300 ribbons will be tied to honor those that died.

The ribbons are in preparation for the 40th anniversary commemoration of Operation Frequent Wind, which lead to the fall of Saigon during the Vietnam War in 1975.

Three Midway docents have a unique connection to the operation. Vern Jumper was the Air Boss on Midway in 1975, Nguyen Nguyen was an OFW refugee and Stephanie Dinh landed on Midway’s flight deck as a 15-year-old in 1975.

The museum will also welcome The Wall That Heals, a 200-foot replica of the Vietnam Wall, on the Midway’s bow from April 25 to April 30.
