30 Illegal Immigrants Found Inside Tractor-Trailer in Salton City: Border Patrol

Border Patrol agents discovered 30 illegal immigrants hidden inside a tractor-trailer at a checkpoint in Salton City on Monday, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).

A tractor trailer was stopped for an immigration check at approximately 9:15 p.m. at the Highway 86 checkpoint. When Border Patrol agents searched the trailer, they found 30 people hidden inside.

According to the CBP, the illegal immigrants had been locked inside the trailer from the outside—which could be a danger to the individuals.

The driver and the 30 people, whom are all Mexican citizens, were taken into custody.

Border Patrol agents had discovered 19 illegal immigrants inside a tractor-trailer at the Highway 86 checkpoint on October 5. A 44-year old man and 18 people were Mexican citizens, one person was from Guatemala, according to CBP. They were all arrested and will be sent back to their country of origin.

In that incident, CBP says the door to the trailer had also been locked from the outside, leaving no way for the 19 individuals to get out.
