1 Stabbed to Death, 1 Injured in Skyline

Police detained a person of interest in the stabbings a short time later

Homicide detectives are investigating an overnight stabbing in San Diego’s Skyline area that left one man dead and another seriously injured.

According to the San Diego Police Department, patrol officers were called to a report of a stabbing around 11:40 p.m. in the 100 block of Coolwater Drive.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered two male victims – ages 36 and 45 – suffering from stab wounds.

Police say the 45-year-old man was taken to a local hospital with non-life wounds, while the 36-year-old victim was unconscious, lying in the driveway of a home.

Responding officers administered CPR while waiting for paramedics to arrive. Despite lifesaving efforts, police say the man -- now identified by the county medical examiner as Charles Berry -- died at the scene.

The name of the other stabbing victim was not released.

Officials from the SDPD say a 32-year-old man was detained by officers a short distance away. He is being interviewed by homicide investigators as a person of interest in the fatal stabbing.
