Armed Suspect Robs Encinitas Eatery

A man armed with a handgun helped himself to the contents of a cash drawer at an Encinitas restaurant, after the frightened owner ran for help.

The suspect slipped into the Golden Bowl Restaurant in Encinitas through an unlocked side door around 7:55 p.m. Saturday night, authorities said.

The robber wore a yellow kerchief over his face and held the owner of the restaurant at gunpoint, motioning for him to lie on the floor, according to the San Diego County Sheriff's Department. Screaming for help, the owner ran from the restaurant in the 1300-block of Encinitas Boulevard.

Then, the suspect took the cash drawer and ran away in an unknown direction.

Deputies are looking for a Latino man, 20 to 30 years old, 5 feet tall with a heavy build, a sheriff's officials said Sunday.

No one was injured.
