A 15-year-old bicyclist is in the hospital after being struck by a minivan in Chula Vista, according to officials.

Police said the teenager was riding his bike north across the intersection of Hidden Path Drive and Picket Fence Drive just before 3 p.m. when he was hit by a Toyota minivan traveling westbound.

The teen was not wearing a helmet and sustained serious injuries from the collision. He was transported to Children’s Hospital, where officials said he is stable condition.

Police said the driver of the minivan is a 35-year-old woman. The cause of the crash is under investigation, but police do not believe alcohol was a factor.
