13th MEU Harrier Crashes After Takeoff From Ship

An AV-8B Harrier jump jet assigned to the Camp Pendleton based 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit crashed in the Gulf of Aden shortly after taking off from the amphibious assault ship Boxer on Tuesday, military officials told Marine Corps Times.

The jet took off from the ship at 5:19 p.m. local time, but rolled right immediately after take off and the pilot ejected, officials said.

The pilot was picked by up a Navy MH-60S Seahawk helicopter and wasn’t seriously injured, according to Marine Corps Times.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
