A water main broke in La Jolla Friday afternoon, leaving nearly 45 homes without water service.
The main broke at about 11 a.m. on the 7800 block of Via Capri at Senn Way, a city water department spokesperson said.
Efforts are being made to shut down water in the area for repairs. Workers initially had trouble shutting off one of the valves.
Homes in the area may be without water until as late as 1 a.m. Saturday morning, said Arian Collins with the city water department.
Authorities believe the 16-inch concrete water main broke as a result of corrosion.
